One day while eating a fish, a bone got stuck in a wolf’s throat. He howled in pain and saw a heron roaming nearby and called out for help. When the heron came closer, the wolf explained his problem and said that he would reward the heron if he saved his life.
The heron put his long beak into the wolf’s throat and took out the fish bone. The wolf thanked the heron for saving his life and was about to leave when the heron asked, “Where is the reward that you had promised to give me in return for saving your life?”
The wolf turned and smiled and replied, “I have not eaten you, isn’t that a reward in itself.”
Saying this the wolf went away and the heron realised that wolves are very selfish and do not keep their word.
